What does a modern home look like? We asked Roman Vrtiška
What is considered a modern home today? What kind of needs and
demands does an interior designer work with?
More and more clients tend to like simple and transparent solutions. In reality, this means that the designers try to avoid purposeless and non-functional concepts. More and more people like free open space where they can live without feeling pent-up. More people also have a better understanding of different kinds of materials – concrete, steel, glass, etc. This results in the use of materials which were formerly a taboo to most clients.
How would you characterize the show apartment you designed for Cornlofts
Šaldova?
It’s a luxury home located in one of the fastest growing areas in Prague. It’s designed for the kind of people who can appreciate all qualities of such project.
What inspired you when you were designing this apartment and how did you approach the realization of your design?
Personally, I am always inspired by the location, my clients and their way of life, their needs and demands in terms of comfortable living. That is the alpha and omega in my interior design. However, this is not easy when you are designing a show apartment for an unspecified client. This is why I’ve tried to encompass more principles in order to create a homogenous design. The location was of course the starting point, then the history of the building and its “loft” features which I have tried to preserve, upgrade with new features, and at the same time slightly adapt to the Czech market and its specific conditions.
